A podcast about books from the Larissa Gerstel Critical Literacy Collection at American University in Washington DC.
Similar to Emily, I was surprised at first when I heard that The Stupids Die was a title for a children's book. While the storyline and illustrations can be considered silly and harmless, this book is controversial. It is important for parents and children to discuss the meaning behind the words stupid and die since this book is rather superficial.
Great job Emily! I think you pointed out some great issues that people would not necessarily think of when picking out this book to read to their class or kids. Excellent explanation.
